Brett Favre Improves Play in 2nd Game on MNF

Love him or hate him, Brett Favre can still manage a football game.

The new Minnesota Vikings quarterback had a better time running the offense on Monday Night Football as he went 13 for 18, 142 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans.

This makes up for his last go around (which he literally played after just hours of signing with the team and missing all of training camp) where he went 1 for 4 and 4 yards.

To add more intrigue to this game, Favre was quoted as saying that he could have a possible cracked-rib to go along with his partially torn rotator cuff before the game started.

But the very entertaining and dramatic quarterback didn't show any ill effects as he was sacked twice and knocked down a few times but didn't seem to favor any discomfort.

At one point in the game, Favre had delivered an illegal crackback block to Houston's Eugene Wilson has he was lined up at the WR position during a Wildcat formation play.

Despite his dramatics and his off the field antics, I have to tip my hat to the guy. He proved during this game that he still has what it takes to run an NFL team. He may not be the big play quarterback we've grown to see over his great career, but he can show that he can just manage a team with a great core of running backs (Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor) and throwing short to intermediate passes to the likes of Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, Visanthe Shiancoe, or newly rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin.

This is something that Tarvis Jackson could not accomplish the last few years with these weapons, minus Harvin.

This might be a one year or two year experiment with Favre, who has a flare for the dramatics, as I cannot wait when he plays Green Bay TWICE this year.  But one thing is for certain, he gives the Vikings the best chance to win NOW, and that's all they could ask for from #4.

Man, Minnesota is like a retirement home for quarterbacks! Let's see who they've had as guests under center:

Jeff George

Warren Moon

Randall Cunningham

Brad Johnson

Now Favre! What a streak! One day, the Vikings will probably have someone like a Matt Hasselbeck or Carson Palmer one day too! Only time will tell!

very good memory, dohn.

Out of all of them, Randall Cunningham had the best results, a 15-1 team, (losing to my Tampa Bay Bucs during the regular season) and being a game away from the Super Bowl. Those dirty birds from Atlanta..
