Top 10 Reasons Florida Gators Will Repeat as BCS National Champions

It's that time of year again where we gear up for another exciting year of college football.

This year, like many in years past, has many intriguing story lines to start the season:

  • Will Oklahoma and Texas be on another collision course for the Big 12 Championship, and will there be controversy again regarding it's clear cut champion?
  • Will USC bounce back after losing QB Mark Sanchez to the NFL and losing some of their top defensive players?
  • Will Ohio State avenge an ugly loss to USC last year on the road and return the favor in Columbus?
  • Who will win the Heisman trophy? Will Sam Bradford be the first player to win it back-to-back since Archie Griffin from Ohio State? Will Colt McCoy beat OU and lead the Longhorns to an BCS Championship game and catapult himself as the front-runner? Or will Tim Tebow win his 2nd Heisman trophy out of 3 years and go down as one of the greatest to ever play the game?

So many questions to ask, but the number one that I am going to break down:

Will the Florida Gators repeat as BCS National Champions?

Here are my Top Ten Reasons why the Florida Gators will not only win the SEC title but go on to visit Pasadena, CA to the gran-daddy of them all (the Rose Bowl) and hoist their 4th National Title in school history.

  1. Defense. Gators are returning all 11 starters on defense from last year's BCS National Championship team including NFL projected first round Linebacker Brandon Spikes.
  2. Easy Schedule. Gators relatively easy schedule-Florida will not have to face Mississippi (who they lost to last year by 1pt), Alabama, or Auburn during the regular season. Teams that have given Florida fits in years past.
  3. Aaron Hernandez. This talented TE came up big last year in a more prominent role in the offense, especially with the absence of Percy Harvin late in the season. He is a junior and I would not be surprised to see him get on some NFL draft boards next year as a projected 1st or 2nd rounder.
  4. Speed on offense. The Florida Gators have one of the fastest teams in the country, behind speedsters RB Chris Rainey, RB Jeff Demps, WR Deonte Thompson, WR Riley Cooper, and new super freshman Andre Debose - all run in the 4.2-4.4 range. All can go the distance on one cutback.
  5. Special Teams Kick Returner: Brandon James. This guy is one of the most electrifying return man in the game. When he touches the ball in open space, that only spells trouble for defenses and can either take it the distance or gets the Gators and Tim Tebow great field position to work with.
  6. Tennessee. UT's head coach Lane Kiffin caused quite a stir when he inadvertently accused Florida's head coach Urban Meyer of 'cheating' white calling a recruit while they were visiting another school's campus (Tennessee). Kiffin was wrong and forced to apologize, but that doesn't mean the Gators will forget. Sept. 19th will be a date that might encourage Florida and set them up for the rest of the season.
  7. Road trip to LSU. This will be the Gators most tested road game, and with LSU winning the last time in Baton Rouge, there is certainly motivation to erase those memories of a then 28-24 lost, a game which Florida was up heading into the 4th quarter 24-14.
  8. Urban Meyer. The Gators head coach is 44-9 during his tenure with Florida, he has won 2 national titles and took his previous team, Utah, to an undefeated season. The man can flat out recruit and coach. So expect him to have the team ready, and ready to defend.
  9. The Swamp. Under Urban Meyer the Gators are 17-1 at home, their only setback being last year's upset vs. Ole Miss. With the ease of schedule and the returning starters, the Gators should be able to protect their house with ease.
  10. Tim Tebow. The Gators heart and soul of the team will not allow them to lose a game. Last year their goal was to go undefeated and run the table, but unfortunately fate would have it that the young Gators still had a lot to learn-and learn they did. Tebow vouched the famous speech about "you will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season". That's a true leader and I believe he is the underlying factor that will lead the Gators to back-to-back BCS National Championships. Their date with destiny begins Sept. 5th.

Yeah, it's almost not fair. Last year's first 2 games were against more formidable opponents - Hawaii and Miami. Next year they get back on track with MAC representative Miami (OH) and USF.
